Introduction

Royal Caribbean has unveiled its summer 2028 Caribbean and Mexico cruise programme, featuring 11 ships across several major departure ports, including all four Icon Class vessels and an upgraded Symphony of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean has announced a major Caribbean deployment for summer 2028, giving passengers more opportunities to explore the region aboard some of its largest and newest cruise ships.

The programme will run from April through October 2028, with sailings departing from Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico and the northeastern United States.

One of the biggest highlights is the deployment of all four Icon Class ships across Florida and Texas. The announcement also confirms that Symphony of the Seas will return to Miami with a newly amplified lineup of onboard experiences, which the cruise line says will be revealed at a later date.

All four Icon Class ships heading to the Caribbean

Royal Caribbean's summer 2028 programme will feature all four Icon Class ships sailing in the Caribbean.

Hero of the Seas will depart from Miami, offering seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries starting in April 2028. These cruises will include visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as destinations such as Philipsburg in St. Maarten, Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas and Cozumel in Mexico.

Legend of the Seas will operate six- and eight-night cruises from Fort Lauderdale. Its itineraries will encompass Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cabo Rojo in the Dominican Republic and Oranjestad in Aruba.

Star of the Seas will continue sailing from Port Canaveral, providing seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Destinations will include Samaná in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico and Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Completing the deployment is Icon of the Seas, which will sail from Galveston, Texas. Passengers will be able to select six- and eight-night Western Caribbean cruises, featuring visits such as Cozumel and Roatán in Honduras. The deployment means passengers will have Icon Class options from four different Florida and Texas homeports throughout the summer season.

Symphony of the Seas returns to Miami with new experiences another significant part of the announcement is the return of Symphony of the Seas to Miami. The ship is scheduled to introduce a newly expanded range of onboard experiences in 2028, prior to running 6 and 8 night Caribbean cruises.

Royal Caribbean has confirmed that additional details will be disclosed later. The company has not yet specified which venues, facilities, or entertainment offerings will be altered. Symphony already includes seven neighbourhoods, the 10-storey Ultimate Abyss dry slide, AquaTheater performances, and more than 20 dining venues.

The announcement provides passengers with something new to anticipate, even though the scale of the planned changes is still unclear.

Six other ships completing the 2028 programme

Harmony of the Seas will sail seven-night Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral, including visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau in the Bahamas.

Brilliance of the Seas will operate six- and seven-night Western Caribbean cruises from Tampa, beginning in April 2028. Its itineraries will include Belize City and Grand Cayman.

Enchantment of the Seas will sail seven-night Southern Caribbean itineraries from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Destinations include Tortola, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Dominica and Barbados.

Vision of the Seas will depart from Baltimore on cruises ranging from five to nine nights. Its itineraries will include Bermuda and selected Southern Caribbean destinations, including Martinique and Antigua.

Independence of the Seas will sail from Cape Liberty, New Jersey, offering four- to nine-night cruises in spring 2028. These will cover destinations across Canada, New England, Bermuda and the Eastern Caribbean.

Oasis of the Seas will also depart from Cape Liberty, offering seven-night Caribbean cruises with visits to destinations including Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Which destinations feature in the new itineraries?

The 2028 programme encompasses a broad selection of Caribbean and Mexican destinations, with choices varying according to the ship, departure port and cruise duration.

Some of the destinations included in Royal Caribbean's announcement are:

  • Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas: The cruise line's private island destination, which includes Thrill Waterpark, Hideaway Beach and Coco Beach Club.

  • Cozumel, Mexico: A well-known Western Caribbean destination recognised for its beaches, snorkelling and Mayan history.

  • Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos: A destination noted for its beaches and clear waters.

  • Samaná, Dominican Republic: Recognised for its natural landscapes and outdoor experiences.

  • St. Croix, US Virgin Islands: Included among the destinations featured in the broader programme.

  • Aruba: Featured on selected Legend of the Seas itineraries.

  • Roatán, Honduras: Included on selected Western Caribbean cruises departing from Galveston.

Passengers visiting Nassau will also have the option to purchase a day pass to Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, which offers pools, beaches, swim-up bars and Bahamian dining. What does this mean for Royal Caribbean passengers?

The announcement provides passengers with greater choice when planning a 2028 Caribbean cruise, especially for those wishing to sail on an Icon Class ship. It also illustrates how Royal Caribbean is spreading its largest vessels across multiple major departure ports instead of concentrating them in a single location.

Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral and Galveston will all host Icon Class departures, whilst San Juan and northeastern ports offer alternative choices for passengers interested in different Caribbean routes.

The planned amplification of Symphony of the Seas is another development to observe. With the specifics still pending, passengers will need to wait to find out precisely what new experiences the ship will provide.

When can passengers book the new cruises?

Royal Caribbean announced that the summer 2028 itineraries opened initially to Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members on 5 November 2026, preceding general booking availability later that day.

Passengers can review the new itineraries, verify sailing dates and compare prices via Royal Caribbean's official website.
