Introduction
Scheduled to debut from Miami in August 2027, Hero of the Seas promises to build on the success of Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas, introducing exciting new attractions, immersive dining experiences and accommodation designed for families.
The ship will feature eight distinct neighbourhoods, nine swimming pools and 28 dining venues, alongside a collection of new experiences designed to appeal to passengers of all ages. Although some familiar Icon Class attractions will return, Royal Caribbean has announced several significant additions and upgrades that will make Hero of the Seas stand out from its sister ships.
From a three story family suite to brand (never before seen on an Icon Class ship) waterslides and a New Orleans inspired supper club, here are five of the most exciting new features coming to Hero of the Seas.
1. The Ultimate Family Treehouse – A Three-Storey Suite Unlike Anything Else
One of the most ambitious additions to Hero of the Seas will be the Ultimate Family Treehouse, an Incredible three story suite designed for families looking for a completely different cruise accommodation experience.
Royal Caribbean has already introduced unusual family accommodation on previous ships, including the Ultimate Family Townhouse. However, the Ultimate Family Treehouse takes the concept in a new direction. Designed to resemble a treehouse retreat, the accommodation will feature multiple levels dedicated to relaxation, entertainment and family activities.
It’s standout features will be a rooftop terrace with a private whirlpool, allowing guests to enjoy ocean views from their own exclusive outdoor space. The suite will also include a two level area designed for teenagers, giving younger family members somewhere to relax and spend time together.
Two main bedrooms will each feature a private bathroom and balcony, providing additional comfort and privacy.According to Royal Caribbean, the Ultimate Family Treehouse will accommodate up to 12 guests, making it particularly appealing to larger families and multigenerational groups.
While pricing will depend on the sailing, the suite is positioned as one of the ship’s most distinctive premium accommodation options ranging between $90,000 and $375,000 per week.
For families looking to celebrate a special occasion or experience an unusual luxurious cruise, this could become one of the most talked about rooms at sea.
What makes it special?
Rather than simply offering more space, Royal Caribbean is turning the accommodation itself into part of the holiday experience.
2. Category 6 Waterpark – The First Funnel Raft Slide at Sea
Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class is already known for its impressive onboard waterparks, but Hero of the Seas will introduce several new thrills. The ship’s Category 6 waterpark will feature six waterslides, including two new family raft slides.
The biggest headline is the introduction of what Royal Caribbean describes as the first funnel raft slide at sea. Unlike a traditional enclosed waterslide, a funnel slide sends passengers through a large, specially designed section where the raft experiences sweeping movements and changes in direction. This new addition is intended to give families another way to enjoy the waterpark together.
Royal Caribbean is also updating the popular Storm Chasers mat-racing slides with redesigned sections, including additional turns, switchbacks and open-air elements.
These changes are intended to create a different experience from the slides found aboard earlier Icon Class ships.
Category 6 will remain one of the centrepieces of the ship’s feature attractions, alongside familiar activities such as the FlowRider surf simulator, Crown’s Edge and the Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall.
Crown’s Edge will continue to offer its combination of a skywalk and zip-line-style experience, positioned approximately 154 feet above the ocean.
For thrill-seeking passengers, Hero of the Seas will therefore combine familiar Royal Caribbean attractions with some genuinely new waterslide experiences.
3. Nine Swimming Pools – Including the Brand-New Coconut Cove
Hero of the Seas is set to feature nine swimming pools, which Royal Caribbean describes as the most pools at sea. This will give passengers more opportunities to relax, swim and enjoy the sunshine across the ship’s different neighbourhoods.
One of the biggest additions will be Coconut Cove, a brand-new Caribbean-inspired swimming pool. Located near The Lime and Coconut bar, Coconut Cove will offer in-water loungers and poolside drinks service.
Passengers will also be able to enjoy views towards the greenery of the Central Park neighbourhood, creating a more tropical atmosphere. The new pool is designed to provide a relaxed alternative to the ship’s busier swimming areas.
The Hideaway Is Getting Bigger
Royal Caribbean is also expanding The Hideaway, its adults-only retreat. On Hero of the Seas, The Hideaway will feature two pools, including an infinity-style pool and what Royal Caribbean describes as the largest swim-up bar at sea.
The area will also feature an in-water DJ booth, combining music, ocean views and a lively poolside atmosphere. This will provide another option for adults looking for a more energetic experience away from the family-focused attractions.
Other Pool Upgrades
The popular Swim & Tonic pool and swim-up bar will also be expanded, offering additional space to relax in the water. Meanwhile, Splashaway Bay in the Surfside neighbourhood will receive new water features for younger passengers. Together, these changes demonstrate Royal Caribbean’s focus on providing different swimming environments for different age groups and holiday preferences.
4. Orleans Parish Supper Club – A New Orleans-Inspired Dining Experience
Dining is another area where Hero of the Seas will introduce something new. The ship will feature 28 dining venues, giving passengers an extensive selection of casual restaurants, speciality dining and immersive culinary experiences. One of the most interesting new additions will be the Orleans Parish Supper Club.
Inspired by the atmosphere of New Orleans during the early twentieth century. The experience will draw inspiration from the city’s historic French Quarter, with a focus on Cajun and Creole dishes.
Rather than offering a conventional restaurant experience, the supper club will bring together food, music and entertainment in a carefully designed setting. Guests can expect a multi-course dining experience accompanied by live jazz performances, creating an atmosphere inspired by the elegance and energy of historic New Orleans.
It’s More Than Just Another Restaurant
Royal Caribbean has increasingly experimented with immersive dining concepts that combine entertainment and technology with food. The Orleans Parish Supper Club will continue this approach, offering passengers an experience intended to feel different from a traditional cruise ship restaurant. Hero of the Seas will also introduce Royal Railway – Hero Station, a themed dining attraction combining simulated train travel, entertainment and food.
5. Family Cooking Classes – A Brand New Activity.
Royal Caribbean is introducing a different kind of family activity aboard Hero of the Seas hands-on cooking classes. The new experience will be located in the Surfside neighbourhood, which is designed specifically with families in mind.
Rather than simply watching a cooking demonstration, passengers will have the opportunity to take part in practical sessions and learn culinary skills together. Royal Caribbean says the classes will cater to different ages and experience levels. Younger children will be able to enjoy fun, accessible recipes, while more advanced sessions will focus on techniques such as baking and food preparation. The idea is to give families an activity they can enjoy together away from the pools, waterslides and traditional entertainment venues.
A Different Kind of Cruise Activity
Cruise holidays are often associated with swimming pools, theatre productions, shore excursions and adventurous attractions. However, Royal Caribbean’s new cooking classes will offer something more interactive. Families will be able to spend time learning new skills, preparing food and sharing the results of their efforts. This could be particularly appealing during sea days, when passengers are looking for additional activities aboard.
When Will Hero of the Seas Set Sail?
Hero of the Seas is scheduled to begin sailing from Miami in August 2027. The ship will operate seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with every sailing scheduled to visit Royal Caribbean’s private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
Western Caribbean itineraries will include destinations such as Roatán, Honduras, and Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico. Eastern Caribbean itineraries will feature destinations including Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. Hero of the Seas reached an important construction milestone in September 2026 when it floated for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The ship is now undergoing further outfitting and construction work ahead of its planned debut.
Although Hero of the Seas will not welcome its first passengers until August 2027, the features already announced suggest that the ship will offer plenty of new experiences for returning Royal Caribbean guests
